I purchased these journals to use as food diaries during the maintenance part of my weight loss journey. (90+ pounds lost since January, 2021, I’m finally there!) They are beautifully constructed, and the PU leather covers have a rich pebble look and feel. They open perfectly flat, and the paper is wonderful! (I’ve not tried it with fountain pens, but there’s only slight ghosting when used with a gel pen.)My only disappointments are that they are not a true A5 size; they are approximately 0.75” narrower, which prevents me from placing the vertical 3x5 cards I use for certain information (so it can be transferred easily from journal to journal) side by side in the back expandable pocket. I was able to place one set in the front pocket, so this isn’t a huge flaw…but I’d still have liked a bit more page width. My other issue is the attached pen loop. It is a great feature, save for the fact that it is *incredibly* tight and requires a fair amount of effort to get my preferred aluminum Pentel EnerGel seated. (An EnerGel with a soft grip section could not be placed in the loop at all as it was impossible to slide the elastic loop over the grip section.)Overall, these are great journals and I will likely end up using them for other writing projects or possibly as bullet journals. If the width and very tight pen loops aren’t issues for you, I would highly recommend these!UPDATE: I purchased another set of these notebooks, and have upped my rating to 5 stars. It’s the seemingly little things that matter, and one thing I noticed is that the pen loop seems *just* a hair bigger. It still holds my pen securely, but it’s much easier to remove and replace. Also, the paper quality seems to have been improved, and I am loving its heavy weight and smooth finish, both of which make writing a joy!
